The original Athletes Corner was opened in 1979 by Michael and Margaret Jabusch in the Hazel Dell area of west Vancouver, Washington. While other sporting goods dealers were available, they felt that the area could and should be serviced better. Their goal was simple and clear - to bring the best possible service and selection for sporting goods to the area. 1986 saw the opening of their second location on the east side of Vancouver in Cascade Park, followed by another in Longview, Washington in 1991. The Longview location holds a special significance, being located just across the Cowlitz River from Kelso where they both grew up. The fourth and (to this point) final addition to the Athletes Corner family opened in Centralia, Washington in 1995.
