Nominated for: BEST Cabins
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission celebrated the grand opening of Cama Beach State Park on June 21, 2008. The new state park is on the southwest shore of Camano Island facing Saratoga Passage. Cama Beach offers visitors a chance to step back in time to a 1930s-era Puget Sound fishing resort complete with waterfront cedar cabins and bungalows. These have been refurbished, with modern conveniences added, and are available for rent year round to individuals and groups
These rustic cabins are ideal for a weekend get away that is not too far from Seattle and for those who enjoy beach combing, day hiking and wooden boats. The best cabins IMO are located at the edge of the beach. They face Whidbey Island. While they may be considered rustic, they do have electricity, fridge, table and beds. Showers are not in most cabins. The center for wooden boats is a 5 minute walk from most cabins. There is a cafe above the cabin area with incredible views and delicious food and coffee. For a small fee a you can rent a GPS and receive a geocaching lesson. This is a fun family activity that will lead you around the beach and the trails above the beach. Across the street (across the entrance to the park) is a trail system that is very moderate and interesting. Children, dogs and grown ups will all appreciate the well maintained, well signed trails at Cama and across the street to Cranberry Lake and a couple other destinations. There is a play area near the cabins (away from the water) for the kids and the rangers are friendly and helpful. There are no cars allowed at the bottom of the hill where the cabins are located. Instead you have the option of using a wheelbarrow (provided by the park) or taking a shuttle.
Cama is very close to Camano Island State Park so you have the option of visiting the other park during your visit. The drive is only about 10 minutes from parking lot to parking lot.
Great value. Family and Pet friendly and a good intro to "rustic cabins". If you don't stay in the cabins consider visiting for a day. Buy the annual pass instead of the one day pass. It will pay for itself with two visits and can be used with two vehicles.

forget the noise ~ at this park the ony motor you hear running is the boats as they pass by. Very quiet place to set and watch the sunset and I must say they have some of the best sunsets I have seen!

This place is the greatest resort -- lots of cabins on the water and NO cars are allowed around the cabins. You can walk around with out getting run over. Great for kids and adults. Has wifi and a very nice Restrant you can walk to.

My family has stayed at Cama Several times and have enjoyed everything about the park. The cabins are clean and comfortable, the setting is perfect, the staff is wonderful and we learn something new about the area and the history of the park every time we go.

I vote for Cama Beach State Park as the best of Western Washington’s (and the rest of this nation) cabin getaways. The 1930’s cabins, the natural history and cultural history of Cama Beach plus the warm and helpful staff of Rangers and The Center for Wooden Boats are top rate.
